Pakistan summons US ambassador over Trump tweet

ISLAMABAD, Jan. 2 (AFP) - Pakistan has summoned the US ambassador, an embassy spokesman said Tuesday, a rare public rebuke after Donald Trump lashed out at Islamabad with threats to cut aid over "lies" about militancy. Ambassador David Hale was asked to go to the foreign office in the Pakistani capital on Monday night, after Islamabad responded angrily to the US President's allegations that it provided safe havens for militants in the latest spat to rock their alliance.A US embassy spokesman confirmed Hale met officials, but added: "We don't have any comment on the substance of the meeting." There was no immediate response from foreign office officials. Trump used his first tweet of 2018 to tear into Islamabad. EC asks candidates to submit their election expenditure details

Kathmandu, Dec 31 : The Election Commission has directed the political parties and candidates of the recently held elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies to submit details of their election expenditure. The EC today asked the candidates of first-past-the-post election and proportional election held on November 26 and December 7 to submit the expenditure details. As per legal provision anyone participating in the election must submit his/her details of election expenditure within 35 days of the election. Much-awaited bridge over Mechi river to come into operation soon

Bhadrapur, Dec 31 : The construction work of the bridge over the Mechi river, bordering Nepal and India in the east is nearing completion. The bridge located in Bhadrapur municipality of Jhapa district is going to be completed after a delay of almost three years. Anak-Surya Joint Venture Limited is constructing the bridge at the total cost of Rs. 373.6 million, according to the Postal Highway Directorate Project Office in Itahari. Various reasons including a faulty pillar led to a delay in the construction of the bridge that connects Nepal to India. Kathmandu, Dec 31 : Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has said the door to form the National Assembly has been opened after the President authenticated ordinance in this regard. Hong Kong ship crew questioned in S. Korea for oil transfer to North

SEOUL, Dec. 30 (AFP) - The crew of a Hong Kong-registered ship have been detained for questioning in South Korea since their tanker was impounded in November for transferring oil to a North Korean vessel and breaching UN sanctions, customs officials said Saturday. The Lighthouse Winmore, which was chartered by a Taiwanese company, was impounded by South Korean customs authorities at the port of Yeosu on November 24 following an inspection.
