Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Indiana State Chapter announced a seven-member NRNA Indiana Help Desk and organized a cyber security seminar amid a function here last week.
The State chapter formed a Help Desk headed by NRNA Indiana Vice President Sunil Wagle to assist Diaspora members in need of help with non-emergency issues. Other members of the team include Devi Raman Pandit, Ramesh Adhikari, Suresh Regmi, Anuradha Gyawali, Narayan Silwal and Rajan Ojha.
Inaugurating the function, Board member of NRNA NCC USA, Gopendra Bhattrai, expressed hope that the team will be able to assist the community members during moments of crisis more promptly and efficiently. Highlighting the importance and need of the Help Desk, NRNA Indiana Chapter President Rajeev Shrestha said as an information-sharing platform, Help Desk will assist the Diaspora members in need of help with non-emergency issues in collaboration and cooperation with local organizations to reach out to expertise and resources available within its network.
At the same function, NRNA Indiana Chapter President Shrestha handed over a check of $4,000 to visionary philanthropist and CEO of Blind Corps, Buna Dahal, to assist her project—From Disaster to Development: A Mobile Mammography for Nepal. The fund was collected from donations from the participants of a program organized by NRNA Indiana to mark the International Women’s Day on March 11, 2018 in Indianapolis. Expressing her gratitude to NRNA Indiana for propelling this drive and to the donors for their generous support, Dahal assured the donors of the transparency in the utilization of the donation.
In the second phase of the program, cyber security expert Dr. Ramhari Subedi delved into various facets of cyber threats and security measures that can be adopted to avert such risks. During his three-hour presentation on wide a range of topics, including hack and security of personal and business computers, cellphones, emails, social media sites, phishing attacks, spoofs and free WiFi, he demonstrated how scammers and hackers can breach data and create panic among potential victims.
Following the seminar, President Shrestha hosted a fund raising dinner at his residence with the objective of generating some resources for NRNA Indiana Help Desk Emergency Fund. Manoj Tuladhar and other artists sang all-time hit Nepali and Hindi songs at the event. A total of $900 was collected from donations of the attendees for the Emergency Fund, according to Chapter’s treasurer Khem Raj Khatiwada.
